Glenda Mullins - I am 49 years old and very out of shape I started Walk Away the Pounds on June 6th i am 5'1 with small frame and weighed 152lbs I looked like i was 8 months pregnant because of my stomach, I still have a long way to go but now its July 15th and I weigh 142 lbs I have lost an inch everywhere I don't look pregnant no more. I started a mile a day worked myself up to 4 miles a day my gold is 101-105 and i watch what I eat, If I eat something I should not eat or over eat I jump in there and do 2 miles. Thanks Leslie |
Alisa Cohen - I am 49 years old and have been using her tapes on and off for several years. When I feel her tapes no longer give me the intensity I need for a good indoor workout I start to jog outdoors.
I have the WATP 3 video set (1mile, 2mile, 3mile) which comes with the 2 pound weighted balls. Later on I have bought the Walk Slim set and the 5 mile advanced walk. In general all of her videos are low impact and easy on the moves. There is no learning any moves. You can start with the first day working out.
I have read other reviews that says you can't get your heart rate up, the workout is only good for seniors or people overweight or out of shape or if you are a beginner. It is true for all of the above, but most people can get a good workout with little modifications, like with most workout tapes. If you are advanced most likeley this will NOT be the workout for you as it is not intense enough even if you used heavier weights. For beginners and intermediate this will be a good workout. Judge for yourself. If you feel you are not getting your HR up high enough, modify the workout by doing larger movements or using a 3 pound weight instead of the 2 pound that they use.
I always use a heart rate monitor when I work out. That way I keep track of my heart rate. My heart rate monitor keeps track of my time in my heart rate zone. The idea is you want to stay a certain amount of time in your target heart rate zone. It don't matter if you jog, run, walk, do aerobics, jump rope or jump up and down as long as you keep you heart rate up for a period of time. They say you want to keep it up for at least 20-30 minutes. For a beginner that is hard, so I say do 2 short workouts per day instead of one longer one.
I am again starting with her tapes after being away for them for a few months. I noticed that when you stop working out for any length of time, you need to work up again to where you were before you stopped. Right now I am doing the 1 mile tape 2 times a day. By the end of week one I will be ready to do the 2 mile tape in the AM and the 1 mile in the PM. You can always change up what you do by changing the weights you use. I like to start with 1 pound weighted balls, go to 1.5 pound dumbells, 2 pound weighted balls and finally 3 pound dumbells. I would highly recommend not using higher then 3 pound dumbbells unless you are doing just your weight training without the cardio.
After a period of time I will get to the 3 mile walk tape using the 3 pound dumbells and eventually it will get harder to keep up my heart rate. I do have her 4 mile walk slim and her 5 mile advanced tapes. The longer you do the workout tapes and being consistant it will take more intensity to get your heart rate up. This is good as you are getting stronger and more fit.
The biggest thing with any fitness program is to be CONSISTANT. Make sure you do it on a regular basis. To loose weight you have to work out a minimum of 5 days per week, 30minutes each day. THAT IS THE MINIMUM.
Good luck and enjoy getting stronger. Dont forget you have to eat healthy because no matter how hard you workout you wont see results if you eat junk.
I would recommend her tapes if you want low impact, easy moves and a simple aerobic workout. Be creative as it is easy to modify her tapes for a higher intensity when you need it. When she does the side steps you can always leap into them and do side leaps. When she does the kicks do high kicks and lean back some to get the kicks higher. Also, make sure you lift your feet when you march and really move your arms.............you will see results. |
Kimberly L - Walk Away the Pounds is a great overall body workout. I enjoy Leslie's enthusiasm and the moves are easy enough for a beginner I've noticed great results in less than a month by just doing WATP for less than a month. |
Deidre (Indiana) - These tapes are great! I usually would do the "Walk and Kick" (my favorite)or the 3 mile one. But every one that I have done has been great. Haven't been doing them as faithfully lately (doing others), but I definitely noticed that I was toning up a bit after doing them consistently. Leslie is fun to watch (maybe a little chessy, but fun!)and the moves are easy to learn. None of the moves put a strain on your back or knees either. I even got my husband doing the tapes with me and he liked them a lot! I have already recommended these tapes to others and continue to do so! I love them! |
Bev Hammer - I have been enjoying your Videos for about 20 or so years. I am now 75 - far to fast heading for 76 - I have 3 of the very first videos, Walk Aerobics; the sets of 3 of Walk Away the Pounds, Walk Away the Pounds Express and Walk Away the Pounds for the Abs. Recently I managed to talk my youngest daugher (just turned 50) into working out with me - this we do at 4:30 in the morning. After a couple of months of the AM workouts, usually 3 mile, she found the 4 mile video and are now into the almost 1 hour workout about 3 or 4 times a week. I'm afraid the next video she will want is your new 5 mile and I will have to FIND a lot more energy to keep up on that. It is great to be able to get in some exercise at home - when I first attempted a little hopefully body change, believe I was in my late 40's or mid 50's, I would run off to a gyn to catch a low impact aeoribcs class during my lunch hour - but that wasn't always possible. I can't say as I have lost a lot of weight - but believe it keeps the heart in better shape!!Anyway - just wanted to thank you and let you know we do work out with you and your group several times a week. |
Carly from Arkansas - Walk away the pounds is a good and easy way to work out, and feel great. Leslie presents a happy atmosphere, one that makes the time pass quickly. I personally had trouble sticking to a workout schedule. this tape makes working out fun. I would recommend these workout tapes to anyone who has had trouble committing. |
Lauren from Texas - This program is very easy to stick with, Leslie is a very pleasant instructor and the moves are easy to follow. I never thought "walking" tapes would do much for me, but I was amazed at the results I got from these tapes. Excellent program! Thanks Leslie! |
Kaitlyn from New York - This is a great workout - easy to learn, intense enough to work up a sweat, and challenging enough to eliminate boredom. When I can't get outside to walk in the winter, Leslie's workout is the perfect substitute |
Tamara from Ohio - This is just a great way to feel good about yourself and gain more energy. The "support" walkers are so pleasant to watch and they make it a lot of fun! |
